This preview was scaled down from last year only showing one offensive and one defensive player. See last years photos here.

A humorous side note about this shoot… this is the first time I’ve used baby oil and a spray bottle… actually, it was a first for all involved. When you go through something like that with another… it really strengthens the bond. I’m sure I’ll be in both their weddings as they will be in mine.

Let me first say, the firmware updates and the strange little “ninja shield thingy” for the newish Pocket Wizard TT5′s have improved the range and reliability a great deal. But, when I was assigned to make a portrait inside a radio station studio… i was foiled again by those tricky little things. I consider myself a pretty darn good trouble shooter and when a problem presents itself unexpectedly I usually figure it out fairly quickly. I impressed myself again… by ditching my initial plan and shooting this image available light. Take that TT5′s. Apparently, the bulletproof ninja garments are no match for SERIOUS RF interference. You know, the kind you might encounter at a flippin radio station. Should’ve crossed my mind before hand.

I just got my new Lastolite Ezybox and was looking forward to taking that thing for a ride. Was gonna throw in some wicked color with my new Honl gels and such. No luck. At the risk to looking seriously incompetent I changed directions and… well… gave up.

So it doesn’t sound like I’m bashing these things, I shot a wedding a couple weeks ago (after the radio studio fiasco) and the TT5′s performed with 99.9% reliability. They were awesome. I stuck stobes all over the place. Gels and all.

Also, just this past Saturday I shot basketball with them and was able to record strobed images (as advertised) at 1/500th. That was most definitely cool.

All in all, I really like these units. But, every now and then they surprise me with inconsistency.

All the food is prepared by the students in honor of their respective traditions. This is the first image I have been able to edit. The shoot was assigned as a future alumni mag project… so, I’ve been putting it off to conquer all the more pressing assignments. Additional images to come on this post.

These photos were shot to accompany an article that President Whitlock wrote for University Business Magazine. The article, Decision-Making in the Age of Connectedness, offers perspective on modern communication tools and their link to the decline in the decision-making capacity among middle-managers. Not outstanding photos here but I really like the lack of depth I was able to create and the portrait of him is one of my favorites so far (excluding the background). His posture and the look in his eyes… confident and wise. My other favorite is below. One of the first portraits I made of him. I was pretty intimidated to photograph him at that point. He was a new president but had worked here in another capacity for a loooong time before me. Although, he wasn’t at all to blame… I felt like I was on his turf. I still do and that’s why I like him so much. This place has become my home too and its a great comfort knowing he’s personally dedicated to My Home. Dig?
